The Ghost Dog of Lake Eola.

On February 7, 2014, in Stories, Uncategorized, by Terry Crew

According to local lore, there is a ghost dog that wanders around the Eastern side of Downtown Orlando’s Lake Eola.  The dog is known to be a little brown terrier, and is known to spontaneously disappear when you stop paying attention to him.

What happened to this dog, that makes him appear? Was he abandoned by his owners, and drifts through eternity always trying to find someone who might take care of him and be his best friend?

Or, did something tragic befall him?  Did he wander into the lake, and find himself unable to climb up on the ledge or get himself out of the water?

One explanation, is that the poor little dog belonged to a young boy.  The family had just moved to the Orlando area in the early 1900’s, but no dogs were allowed in his complex.  So, the father took the dog in a bag, and threw him in the water to drown.  While the dog didn’t make it out alive, he still wanders around the lake, looking for his boy.
